My research is dedicated to exploring what ideas and concepts have shaped China today, focusing on the interdisciplinary analysis of ideas and institutions, with three periods of time: the pre-Qin, Qing, and modern periods.
The pre-Qin period focuses on the conflict between the centralized jurisdiction of the county system and the autonomy of the feudal system, thus explaining the emergence and evolution of many concepts in the pre-Qin period. In the Qing Dynasty, the focus is on the divergence between new population control and traditional governance models, clarifying the modern crisis and ideological dilemma of ritual and Confucianism, and relieving the crisis of scripture caused by historical positivism. In the modern period, I analyze the context of thinkers through the sociology of knowledge, introduce power, military, and political events into the interpretation of ideas, focus on the relationship between discourse and action in specific time and space, and deconstruct the previous linear academic historical narratives into actions of interest in different contexts.
