Born in Shandong in 1989, Jian Ren received the B.Sc. in Electronic and Information Engineering from Xidian University in 2012 and was recommended for postgraduate study without taking the entrance examinations. In 2015, he received the M.Eng. degree in electromagnetics and microwave technology from Xidian University, Xi\\\\\\'an, Shaanxi, China, under the supervision of Prof. Ying Zeng Yin. In March 2015, he joined State Key Laboratory of Millimeter wave in City University of Hong Kong, as a Research Assistant, under the supervision of Prof. K. W. Leung. He obtained the Ph.D. degree in City University of Hong Kong in October 2018. During his PhD career, his research focuses on the design of antenna for high purity multi-mode orbital angular momentum (OAM) generation at microwave and millimeter-wave band.
In 2019, Dr. Ren joined Xidian University, where he is now Accosicate Professor. He has supervised and co-supervised several international students. His research interests include microwave circuits, metamaterials and metasurfaces, twisted waves (OAM mode), additive manufacturing for antenna applications and dielectric resonator antennas.
Dr. Ren has authored and co-authored 30 journal papers and conference papers, including 15 with first authorship or corresponding author. The total citation of the paper reaches 400 and the H-index is 13. Jian Ren is the recipient of Outstanding Academic Performance Award from CityU, National Graduate Scholarship and First-Class Award of Excellent Master Thesis. He is an active reviewer for over 10 professional journals, including IEEE Transactions on AP, IEEE Antennas and Wireless Propagation Letters, Journal of Physics D: Applied Physics, IET Microwaves, Antennas & Propagation and so on. He is also served as an external evaluation expert for the Icelandic Research Fund (since 2017).
