Jian-Kang Xiao obtained the B.S. degree and M.S. degree from Lanzhou University, China, in 1996 and 2004, respectively, and obtained the PhD degree in 2007. From 1996 to 2001, he was an electric engineer in Institute of Modern Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, from 2007 to 2009, he was a postdoctoral research fellow in South China University of Technology, from 2009 to 2011, he was an associate professor in Hohai University, and from 2013 to 2014, he was a domestic visiting scholar in Tianjin University, China. He joined Xidian University, China, in July, 2011. From 2015-2016, He was a academic visitor in Heriot-Watt University, UK.

He was a reviewer of many international journals including IEEE Trans. Microwave Theory and Techniques, IEEE MWCL, IET Microwaves, Antennas & Propagation, Electronics Letters, International Journal of Electronics and Communications,  International Journal of Antennas and Propagation, International Journal of Electronics, Frequenz (Journal of RF-Engineering and Telecommunications), Journal of Circuits, Systems, and Computers, Journal of Electromagnetic Waves and Applications, Progress in Electromagnetics Research. He also was a reviewer and editor of The Scientific World Journal. He was a senior member of Chinese Institute of Electronics, and member of Optical Society of America.

He had authored and coauthored 40 journal articles in international journals such as IEEE Trans.,  IEEE MWCL, IET Electronics Letters, AEU-International Journal of Electronics and Communications, Microwave and Optical Technology Letters, J. of Electromagn. Waves and Appl., Progress In Electromagn. Research, and Microwave Journal. His research works had been supported by many research foundations.
