Hongfei Ma, Ph.D, Professor. He received his B.S. degree in Telecommunication Engineering, M.S. degree in Communications and Electronic Systems, and Ph.D. degree in Communications and Information Systems, from Xidian University, in 1985, 1988 and 1998 respectively. He had visited University of Colorado at Boulder, USA, in 1994. From 1999 to 2004, he had been in Canada and worked on co-projects with AVT/QDsn/RCC as a senior R&D research staff, he had visited University of Victoria and other Universities as well. He is a member of IEEE, IEEE communications society and signal processing society.

He is currently working with the State Key Laboratory of Integrated Service Networks, School of Communications, Xidian University, Xi’an, China. His research interests are in the areas of multimedia communications, source coding and data compression, including multimedia source (speech, audio, video and image) analysis, synthesis, compression, coding and copyright protection, including multimedia communications and networking, also including multimedia applications related to handheld devices and consumer products. He has published more than 20 papers in journals and conferences and has filed more than 10 patents with 7 grant. He has gained several industry awards from Electronic Industrial Department of China and Electronic Department of Shaanxi Province, China.
